Goole 2026 Bicentenary Group Launch Event

Saturday 20th July 2024 marks the 2-year countdown towards Goole’s 200th birthday in 2026. The date will mark the official launch of Goole 2026 to celebrate Goole’s bicentenary and the opening of the Lowther Hotel in 1824.

Saturday 20th July 2024 marks the 2-year countdown towards Goole’s 200th birthday in
2026. The date will mark the official launch of Goole 2026 to celebrate Goole’s bicentenary
and the opening of the Lowther Hotel in 1824.
The 20 th of July 1826 saw the official opening of the ‘Company’ town and port of Goole, but
the history of the town dates back several hundred years before this. In fact, the Lowther
Hotel dates back to 1824, Bridge Farm from the mid-18th century and Goole’s ‘Dutch’
connection with Cornelius Vermuyden to the early 17th century.  
Community Group ‘Goole 2026’ are inviting residents to join in with a walking tour titled -
 The Origins of Goole – A Pre-1826 Landscape. The walk will take you on a journey through
the location of Goole’s oldest surviving buildings, explore the early history of the Lowther
Hotel and the development of Goole by the time of its opening in July 1826.
Pre-booking for the tour is required A maximum of 25 People can attend. The event takes
place from 13.30pm to 15.30pm on Saturday 20 th July. To book please email

On street parking is available. The tour will include an inclined ramp and steps across Goole
Docks. Further details will be confirmed upon booking.

opportunity to learn some intriguing facts about Goole as we take a look at the town’s early
