Leading singer-songwriters and composers across genres created a series of fifteen County Songs inspired by the people of their county.
Inspired by the Goole Civic Societies film (Reflection on Goole) about the town, composer Gavin Bryers and lyricist Blake Morrison wrote the song using many of the words and feelings of local people interviewed in the film.
Gavin Bryars’ Song for East Riding premiered on the 30th of April
“Above Water”, the song for the East Riding was performed by the popular Goole choir The Reads Warblers.
You can watch all the songs on YouTube https://asongforus.org/ you may notice two GCS members feature in the song Above Water who are also members of the choir. We had to record ourselves on our mobile phones (several times)! At home, until we got it right then upload the video file where some clever editing made us all fit together to create the song as you see in the picture.
