Conservation Areas celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2017, having been established under the Civic Amenities Act in 1967.
There are nearly 10,000 Conservation Areas in England. They can be created where a local planning authority identifies an area of special architectural or historic interest, which deserves careful management to protect that character.
Goole's Conservation Area, covering parts of the Town Area, Hook Road and South Dock, was designated in 2011. Follow the link to download the Civic Society's Conservation Area Guide, produced with the help of the East Riding of Yorkshire Planning Department. It provides maps of the Conservation Area and gives useful information for property owners.
